Written and devised by Fancy Another? Shaping Dust follows Emma, an elderly woman living with dementia. As her house begins to be packed up Emma sets out on a quest to find her special tea cup. However, the search not only means she revisits the rooms of her house but also the memories that make up her very existence.
It’s May which means part five of #MyStageyYear is here! This month I attended The Half God of Rainfall at the newly re-vamped and re-opened Kiln Theatre in Kilburn, North West London.
Is it just me or is 2019 whizzing past at the rate of knots?! So far so good with the #MyStageyYear series, I have successfully seen one off-West End, regional or fringe piece of theatre every month so far. Part 4 of this series sees me try something new – a stand-up show! And not just any normal stand-up show, a work in progress stand-up show!
A couple of months ago the lovely Lisa Gaye Wright invites me along to see her brand new musical, Botox or Bust. So yesterday afternoon I headed out of London and down to the coast to see a workshop performance.
Running from the 21st to the 23 March, Botox or Bust is a madcap and hilarious tale of Madeline Green who is being dragged kicking and screaming into middle age. Written by Lisa Gaye Write, Botox or Bust is directed by Laura Ward and features a cast of ten wonderful women!
Ian McKellen, the legend of British acting, and acting in general, has hit the road in celebration of hid 80th birthday (say what)! In Ian McKellen On Stage the show biz veteran regales tales of his long and lustrous career. I was lucky enough to be one of the audience members at his stop at The Bridge Theatre.
Welcome to my first review of not only 2019 but of my new series, My Stagey Year! I knew nothing about Aspects of Love before seeing it, I knew it was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber but that was about it. In hindsight perhaps it would have been good to have read a synopsis before entering the performance space as it may have saved me some of the confusion that I felt for the majority of the first act. That being said, Aspects of Love is probably one of the most confusing, boring and far fetched musical I have ever seen.
I’m Not Running tells the story of Pauline, a Midlands GP who is shoved into the limelight when she fights to save her local hospital from closing. Becoming a figurehead for the NHS Pauline stands alone in Westminster as an Independent MP. However as she gains popularity the question of whether she will run as a candidate for the Labour Party leadership begins to pull her further into the political throng.
Poor Girls Guide To Theatre is a place when I will be sharing my opinions on theatre in all its glory, and some times, ugliness. From writing to reviews to sharing my thoughts on the latest news I’ll be diving in deep into the industry that I love so much. I started this blog on Instagram almost a year ago, but I had just landed my first job and time, pressure and drive ran away from me, so this is my re-boot to get back into the swing of things!
